Greetings from Hollywood and Surrounding Environs

Los Angeles, CA--I have really enjoyed this trip. Just the fact that I have been able to contaminate myself with colors, creativity, neon lights, modern buildings, daring architecture and good cheap food.

We got here Friday and it has been fantastic staying and sightseeing in West L.A. I have had visual joy photographing at pleasure. I even had a chance to photograph the Hollywood sign and although I know everyone has done it. As a photographer it is cool to have your own photo of it, like every other landmark.

During a tour yesterday of the Hollywood and Melrose neighborhoods (Sunday was beautiful and sunny), West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, I took pictures of some store fronts. The design districts on Melrose and Robertson Avenues are wonderful. There just isn't anything similar at home in Washington.

So far, we haven't seen Brandon or Brenda Walsh having any drama meltdowns in Beverly Hills. However, we did learn that the facade of the Peach Pit of "Beverly Hills 90210" fame is actually the Kokomo Cafe on Beverly Bloulevard in L.A.

Top row photos: The Beverly-Wilshire Hotel at the beginning of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, and the The Guiness Book of World Records museum on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles (right in the heart of the Hollywood Hall of Fame walk). Middle row photo: The Hollywood sign. Bottom row photos: The Dog Boutique on La Cienega Boulevard in west L.A., and the Beverly Hills Diner on Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills.

Luis Gomez Photos

I am a freelance photographer and photojournalist who moved to Washington, D.C., in 2003 from Caracas, Venezuela. During my 15 years as a photographer, I have traveled the world collecting images for work and pleasure. I have taken photographs throughout the Americas, Europe and Australia, focusing on cityscapes and architecture as well as the simplicity of landscapes and people.

I studied architecture at the University of Tennessee and then returned to Venezuela to earn a B.A. degree in communications from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas.
I was a photographer and photo editor for publishing companies while doing freelance work for local and international media outlets.

I was born to a Venezuelan mother and a Belize-American father, some of my earliest memories are of hurrying through airport terminals with a camera around my neck. I was raised in Brazil and Venezuela, and I am fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese.
